Empowerment Through Tutoring

Problem & solution

Adult learners want to apply new skills immediately and have specific goals in mind. Addressing these complexities is critical for those working with adult learners. Unfortunately, many adult learners feel unheard and may be discouraged from learning. It is crucial for tutors to practice empathy, design practice activities mirroring real tasks, and use scaffolding strategies to promote independent learning. My scenario-based e-learning solution targets new tutors of adult learners, enabling them to navigate sessions effectively.

Process

The foundation of this e-learning program adheres to the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Collaborating closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) during the Analysis and Design phases, I gathered insights and constructed an Action Map to delineate SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound) project goals and associated tasks for tutors. The prioritization of key action items was instrumental in shaping the project's direction.

Action Map with SMART goal and highlighted top priority items.

Storyboard

The Storyboard serves as the script for the e-learning program, transforming it into a scenario-based learning experience. Within the Storyboard, priority action items are contextualized within scenarios, each offering three answer options, each with distinct outcomes.

Visuals

With the Storyboard as the blueprint, I started on the visual phase of the eLearning. Beginning with a curated mood board, I selected color palettes, typography styles, and visual motifs for the e-learning experience. From there, I put together a style guide to ensure visual coherence and consistency. Using Figma, Using Figma, I developed wireframes and visual mockups to refine layout and design.
